We often get the question: “Is my skin treatment covered by insurance?” Sometimes you see salons claiming that you can get almost everything reimbursed. That sounds appealing, but it’s usually not true. We’re happy to explain how it works in a clear way, so you know exactly what to expect.

Our professional approach

At Huidkliniek Parkstad, everything revolves around transparency and quality. We are not a traditional beauty salon — we focus on real skin improvement, with medically certified techniques, qualified specialists, and a cosmetic doctor.

  • We are affiliated with Anbos and the SKIN Register; our skin specialists meet strict quality standards and are required to follow continuing education.
  • Our doctor, Drs. Van Loo, is a member of the Dutch Association for Cosmetic Medicine (NVCG).
  • Ongoing training is mandatory: all our practitioners earn accreditation points every year through recognized courses. This keeps knowledge up to date and ensures we meet the requirements of insurers and regulators.

What is never routinely reimbursed?

Cosmetic skin improvement is considered “not medically necessary” by health insurers. This means these treatments are not covered by basic insurance, and usually not by supplementary insurance either:

  • Peels, LED therapy, connective tissue massage
  • NeoGen Plasma (rejuvenation), skin boosters, fillers, Botox
  • Exosomes, microneedling (unless with a medical indication)
  • Plasma eyelid correction without medical necessity

When can there sometimes be reimbursement?

There are a few exceptions, depending on your policy, medical situation, and who performs the treatment:

  • Acne therapy through supplementary insurance
  • Camouflage therapy for visible pigmentation disorders or scars
  • Laser hair removal on the face for excessive hair growth with a medical cause (such as PCOS)

Important: insurers may ask for referrals, treatment plans, and before-and-after photos to assess whether the treatment is justified.

Why not everything can simply be claimed

Some salons claim that cosmetic treatments can be reimbursed, even when there is no medical necessity. That is not allowed and can be seen as improper claims or even fraud.

Who monitors this?

  • The Health and Youth Care Inspectorate (IGJ) monitors the quality and safety of cosmetic care.
  • Health insurers carry out checks to ensure claims are legitimate.
  • The Dutch Healthcare Authority (NZa) has a reporting point for suspected healthcare fraud or incorrect claims.

Consumers also have a responsibility: anyone who knowingly cooperates in submitting claims for treatments that are not covered can face problems themselves.

Why we don’t submit claims ourselves

We do not submit invoices to health insurers, because:

  1. It provides clarity: you know exactly what you pay and what for.
  2. We want to protect your privacy and avoid misunderstandings.
  3. If you want to submit a claim yourself, we can provide your invoice and treatment plan, but we cannot guarantee reimbursement.

How we ensure everything is correct

  • Every treatment starts with an intake: discussing wishes, expectations, and feasibility.
  • We analyze your skin (for example with the Observ skin scan) and create a treatment plan tailored to your skin’s needs.
  • We ask for permission and take before-and-after photos to properly track results.
  • Our skin specialists and doctor work according to clear protocols, with safe equipment and mandatory training.

In summary

  • Cosmetic skin improvement is usually not reimbursed.
  • Sometimes there are exceptions (acne therapy, camouflage therapy, laser hair removal with medical cause).
  • We are fully accredited, our specialists follow mandatory continuing education, and we work according to IGJ and NZa regulations.
  • Submitting claims for treatments that are not eligible is fraud and can have consequences.
  • We choose transparency: you know exactly what you get, why, and what the costs are.
